Three quick thoughts from Habs Game 5

October 17, 2015

The Nashville Predators were in town on Thursday, and a game that was fairly low-key delivered another exciting finish as the Montreal Canadiens won again in overtime. The final score was 3-2.

Here are three quick thoughts from that game.

Jakub Dobes has earned more games.

He can be an adventure, for sure, but you can’t deny the growing evidence that Dobes comes through for the Habs. After watching Carey Price get treated like a rented mule for years, I’m a fan of something closer to a platoon. But with Montembeault still struggling to find his rhythm, Dobes has earned more games.

Did you see who Caufield pointed to on the OT winner? He knew some key stops had gotten them there.

The battle for 6D continues.

I genuinely thought Arber Xhekaj had won that spot, but over four games we didn’t really see the confidence we saw in the preseason. Marty doesn’t like to keep anyone in the press box too long, and Struble looked good in his first game of the season. He even saw a little time with Hutson.

Patrik Laine may have gotten the message about the press box rotation. He played a better game last night.

Canfield and Suzuki are solid gold in the 3-on-3.

It almost feels inevitable when the 3-on-3 starts that those two will find a way to win it. They did, and the Habs are 4-1-0 to start the season.
