Three Habs made a case in Game 43

The Calgary Flames were in Montreal on Wednesday night for the 43rd game of the season for the Canadiens. The result was a 4-1 win for the Habs.

Three players caught my eye.

Texier made a case to stay in the line-up.

He was brought in on the cheap to be an injury-replacement placeholder. But now he can see the writing on the wall and knows he’s fighting for a job again with players returning.

The first goal was a goal-scorer’s goal that looked like Caufield should have been the shooter. On the second goal he worked with Danault to maintain offensive zone possession so Hutson could finish. On the fourth goal he made a perfect pass to an open Caufield.

A three-point night for Texier.

Kapanen made a case to be the 2C.

GM Kent Hughes told the media he believes Oliver Kapanen can be the 2C the Canadiens need. Kapanen believes it too. The third goal was on a turnover he forced, and then headed to the net for the rebound.

He’s tied for rookie goal-scoring. At what point do we all take this kid seriously?

Fowler made a case to stay in Montreal.

He made 28 saves on 29 shots. He doesn’t look like a guy who is overwhelmed by his early arrival in the NHL. Hughes has a big decision to make in the coming days.

These are very good problems to have!
