The Habs streak ended in Game 77

On Sunday, the Montreal Canadiens opened a four-game home-stand with the New Jersey Devils in town. On Saturday they had beaten the Devils in Jersey to close out a five-game road trip for the sweep. The result in this one was a 3-0 loss.

Here are my notes from the game.

A playoff berth was clenched before the puck was dropped.

By mid-afternoon on Sunday, Minnesota had won the game against Detroit, and the Montreal Canadiens were confirmed as playoff bound.

Of course, the Habs have higher hopes in mind. They have their sights set on winning the Atlantic Division, and maybe even the Eastern Conference.

Caufield’s milestone needs to get sorted.

In the two games against New Jersey there was a lot of looking for Cole. I get it. 50 goals is a big deal and they want that for their teammate and the fans. But in a couple of spots they were looking for Cole when they could have shot. They need to stop forcing it and let it happen.

A let down game was inevitable.

Every winning streak ends some time. The second game of a back-to-back, at home following a long and emotional road trip, after clinching a playoff spot earlier in the day. It was almost certain.

Back at it on Tuesday.
