The Habs season ended in Game 5, but this is just the beginning

On Friday night the Montreal Canadiens were in Carolina for the fifth game of the Eastern Conference Final. It was a do or die game for Montreal and the result was a 6-1 loss.

Here are my final two thoughts of the season.

It’s shocking, isn’t it, when doing the same thing over and over again doesn’t produce a different outcome.

It’s not disappointing that the Canadiens were eliminated from the Eastern Conference Final. It’s shocking they were there in the first place. The disappointing part is how they lost in the end. The lack of adjustment is somewhat baffling.

Granted, the Habs are an unfinished project. The options available to Marty were few. But some legs and grit in Xhekaj might have been a good idea. Maybe Gallagher would have given them an emotional boost.

There was nothing to lose in making a change. But they rolled out the same look and got the same result and the season is done. It might not have made a difference either way, but it would have been nice to see them try.

This playoff has been a perfect assessment period for HuGo.

The learning for the young Habs goes without saying. 19 playoff games under your belt is not a small thing. But the kids are not the only ones learning.

Gorton and Hughes were watching every minute of action and learning what yet needs to be done to build this team. With the growth they’ve shown, HuGo won’t be timid about making big moves to help their group.

Go Habs Go!
